Lexington High School

2013AssessthruMSIStudents at Lexington High School in Lexington, Massachusetts, wanted to work with teachers to improve teaching and learning in their classes.

Forming the Best Practices Club, they volunteered to go into classrooms and sharing watch how teachers delivered their lessons. After that, they sought to create a dialogue between students and teachers about good classroom practice. They created and used an observation tool with open-ended questions on topics like the classroom atmosphere, teaching for understanding, etc.

After that, they facilitated student-teacher meetings and workshops to share their findings, and led schoolwide workshops on best teaching practices they discovered.
