Meaningful Student Involvement can be present throughout school climate.

The way a school is physically built and looks affects school climate as much as the interactions among students and between students and teachers. Engaging students as partners in school climate does not mean handing over the schools to students for them to learn on their own. Instead, it means acknowledging they are already leading building climate, whether adults admit it or not. Educators can move from passively allowing students to lead school culture to actively encouraging them for taking responsibility for it through learning opportunities focused on their roles. While doing that, schools can use the Characteristics of Meaningful Student Involvement to substantially enhance individual and building-wide culture.
