Hope Street Youth Organizing

2013LeadthruMSIIn Wichita, Kansas, a group of middle and high school students once worked through a local youth service agency called Hope Street to create safer, more effective schools for students in their community.

Through a variety of campaigns, students with the Hope Street Youth Organizing program worked to find alternatives to suspensions, end zero-tolerance policies, and implement Black history education. They also partnered with their local district to create a new teacher-training model and student satisfaction survey. Hope Street was a youth-led organization where students and adults worked in partnership to develop programs that connect the interest of the students will real-world skills they will need to succeed.
